Lessons I’ve Learned in Mentoring

1.       Be intentional.

Give your bodies as a living sacrifice.

Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going to work and walking around life—and place it before God as an offering. Romans 12:1 MSG

2.     Presence matters.

Word became human.

God moved into the neighborhood. John 1:14 MSG

3.     Live not only for Him, but from Him.

The world doesn’t need you with a little bit of Jesus. The world needs a dead you and a resurrected Jesus.

Are you tired?  Worn out? Burned out on religion?  Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.  Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly. Matthew 11:28-30 MSG

4.     Love from Him.

Perfect love casts out all fear.

God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us . . . there’s no room in love for fear. 1 John 4:17-18 MSG

5.     Get in the mess.

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.

You’re here to be light. Bring out the God-colors in the world. Keep open house. Be generous with your lives. Matthew 5:14 MSG
